    Dawn Meadows in Junction City is fostering an actual meadow. Butterflies flit from yarrow to yellow St. John’s wort. Delicate wildflowers intermingle with wild sumac. In the summer, the vacant lot is a riot of color and sound, filled with birdsong and the insistent hum of insects. As idyllic as it is, this impromptu prairie and many areas like it represent one of the biggest challenges Junction City has faced over the past two decades.
