All models are wrong, but some are useful – we all have heard this quote. But it raises several questions (including but not limited to) – What would a model of the entire world look like? Can you couple geodynamical models with climate and biological evolution models? Would these models be useful? In this week’s blog post, Timothy Gray, a PhD student from ETH Zürich is looking for answers to these questions, and sharing his experiences about doing a PhD in the field of Biogeodynamics.

OMAHA — Here's a quick-hitting look at Thursday's action in the Class B tournament. Aquinas, with 47 points, has an 11-point lead over Plainview and Shelby-Rising City entering Friday's consolation and semifinal rounds. The Monarchs look to repeat as the team champions, but have five other teams on their heels that have scored over 30 points. It could either be Aquinas running away with four semifinalists Friday, or it could be a free-for-all by Friday's end.

FIRTH — The wrestling season has been pretty straightforward for Lincoln Pius X powerhouses Joe Andreasen and Sam Andres. Wrestle and come out on top. Joe Andreasen was fresh off a semifinal victory at 175 pounds Friday at the Ron Severson Invitational at Norris, and Lincoln Pius X head coach Jerry Clinch had some quick words for the Thunderbolt junior. “That's the Joe I know,” Clinch said. Andres clinched a spot in the 190-pound championship at the same time with his second pinfall victory.

It was the Sarah Gatwech show Friday for Lincoln North Star, as the junior put up 30 points to break the Gators' single-game scoring record. KayTee Irons-Buettner provided the encore on Saturday. Irons-Buettner tied the Gators' single-game record for 3-pointers, drilling seven of them in a 27-point performance to lead No. 2 Lincoln North Star over Omaha Benson 81-55 at North Star. “Honestly I had no idea where she was (record-wise),” North Star head coach Tommy Johnson said.
