Chatham doesn’t allow private shellfish grants, and the shellfish advisory committee decided last week not to rescind that policy. FILE PHOTO CHATHAM – There is one private aquaculture grant in town, and it’s likely to remain that way, at least for the time being. After a lengthy discussion, members of the shellfish advisory committee last week agreed to table a proposal to repeal the section of the town’s shellfish regulations which prohibit private grants.

ATLANTIC WHITE SHARK CONSERVANCY PHOTO CHATHAM – Cape Cod isn’t the only place that’s seen an increase in the sightings of great white sharks. Researchers from Canada to Florida have been photographing and tagging the apex predators in recent years, and that’s helped the Chatham-based Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) boost its catalog of individual white sharks to more than 700.

Treatment facilities like this one will be needed to remove PFAS from public water supplies. Chatham recently awarded a contract to build a treatment facility after PFAS was detected in two town wells. EPA PHOTO CHATHAM – While PFAS levels coming directly out of one town well are slightly above new federal standards for the so-called forever chemicals, treating and blending the water brings the reading down to an undetectable level, according to officials.
