MARSHALL — For six years, Sawyer’s Santa Land has been spreading holiday cheer at 831 Calloway Road in Marshall. The free Christmas walk-through features more than 400 inflatables, 100 wood cutouts, thousands of lights and a mission to bring joy to every visitor. The display is spearheaded by Nick Brown and his family. Every child who visits receives a free toy, a tradition that began in 2020 during the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hallsville ISD is strengthening ties with local businesses and industry leaders to ensure its Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs prepare students for in-demand jobs. During the district’s first CTE Advisory Council meeting of the 2024-25 school year, business representatives, educators and students discussed ways to align course offerings with workforce needs. “Our business and industry partners are invaluable,” said Kathy Gaw, Hallsville ISD’s CTE director.

WASKOM — Waskom ISD recently named Nichole Smith, the district’s assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, as interim superintendent effective Dec. 1, following Rae Ann Patty’s departure to lead Gladewater ISD. Smith, who joined Waskom ISD alongside Patty in 2019, has led key initiatives in curriculum development and instructional leadership. As interim superintendent, she is expected to build on the district’s foundation of success.
