LINDALE — Behind blazing bats and dominant pitching, Hallsville defeated Crandall, 11-1, in Game 2 of the Class 5A Division 2 regional semifinals to secure the sweep and advance to the regional softball finals. The first inning was all about pitching. Crandall's Jill Prda and Hallsville's Ella Baird allowed a runner on but were able to get out of the inning unscathed. The Hallsville offense came alive in the second inning.

KILGORE — Behind a no-hitter tossed by Carson Wallace and a walk-off by Mason Clark, Harleton downed the Alba-Golden Panthers, 10-0, in five innings to earn the title of area champions at Driller Park. The Harleton student section showed up in full force, banging on trash cans and making as much noise as possible while cheering "feral mongoose" in support of Wallace and cheering every player when he was up to bat. Wallace asserted his dominance on the mound early.

AUSTIN — Students, teachers and public employees who refer to people by their biological sex instead of their gender identity would be protected from punishment under a bill the Texas Senate passed Thursday. “This is a bill we passed and debated at some length to protect teachers and public employees who wish to address students or others by what they perceive to be their biological sex,” Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola, said shortly before the 20-11 vote to send the proposal to the House.
