For time well spent beyond the bustling banks of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), head to the Vallée de Joux – birthplace of Swiss horology – a pretty 50km drive or two-hour train journey from Lausanne in the canton of Vaud. Numerous luxury watchmakers call the valley home, including Audemars Piguet, which opened the Hôtel des Horlogers next to its headquarters in the village of Le Brassus in June 2022.

Online supermarket Ocado has finally joined the UK’s other high-street retailers in showcasing its seasonal wine highlights. Despite having more than 1,600 wines, a recent autumn/winter tasting focused on ‘a small snapshot’ of just 27: 11 reds, nine whites, four sparklings, two rosés and one fortified. Being free of shelf space constraints means Ocado’s online offering boasts popular brands alongside exclusives and wines from small producers.

More than 1,200 wine lovers made the annual pilgrimage to the historic Landmark London hotel in Marylebone for the 27th Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (DFWE). From 9am – 90 minutes before doors opened – 300 lucky ticket holders for the morning session of the exclusive Cellar Collection room started assembling, producers taking photos of the queue snaking down corridor and through the hotel lobby.

The UNESCO World Heritage listed Dolomites, in the northern Italian Alps, are a jaw-dropping set of peaks, whose majesty is hard to convey unless you’ve actually been there. A luxurious base from which to explore them is Hotel La Perla, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, in the village of Corvara – the heart of the Alta Badia ski resort – in the province of Alto Adige (aka Südtirol).

More than 120 fine wines will be released in the coming weeks as part of the September 2024 Beyond Bordeaux campaign. This second tranche of international releases, or Hors Bordeaux, follows the 60 wines launched on La Place de Bordeaux by négociants in March. This September marks one of the few occasions since the campaign began in 1998 that very few new wineries will debut on La Place.

We did a soft launch in September 2023 – around the time that we won the Decanter Retailer Award – and then properly opened it up in the new year. We offer free local delivery, but most of our orders are outside Balham (London SW12).
