    The Caldwell County Lady Tiger softball team is hoping its getting hot at the right time. Caldwell won its fourth-straight game on Tuesday, holding off Graves County for a 6-5 triumph in Mayfield. The Lady Tigers are now 14-13 with one regular-season game remaining. Caldwell would assure itself of a winning season with a victory at home over Marshall County on Thursday. At Graves, the Lady Tigers overcame a 2-0 deficit through three innings to build a 6-2 lead.

    Lyon County slammed three home runs while rolling past Caldwell County 16-3 in five innings during action Tuesday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton. John Bingham had two of those long balls. He had a two-run shot to left in the top of the first inning as Lyon jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Bingham drilled a three-run homer to left as part of a nine-run fifth inning that put the game away. Austin Spears added a three-run shot in the second inning that gave the Lyons a 7-0 advantage.

    Caldwell County senior Brylee Butts has been on a tear as the Lady Tigers have won three straight games. Butts was 4-for-4 on Monday as Caldwell blanked Muhlenberg County 7-0. She slammed two home runs over the weekend as the Lady Tigers won a pair of games at the Best of the West in Bowling Green. Butts was also recently named 2nd Region Female Athlete of the Year by the 2nd Region Athletic Directors Association. Your Sports Edge spoke with Butts following Monday’s win.

    A three-game winning streak has the Caldwell County Lady Tigers back to .500 at 13-13 on the season. The Lady Tigers blanked Muhlenberg County 7-0 on Monday as Alexis Wood pitched a two-hit shutout. Wood did not walk a batter or have a strikeout, but she allowed only three baserunners on a pair of singles and a hit batter. She faced just two batters over the minimum as Caldwell turned a 1-4-3 double play to end the contest.
