A special exception application for a 20-megawatt utility scale solar energy facility in Deltaville failed to get approval of the Middlesex Board of Supervisors. On Tuesday, June 3, following a four-hour public hearing, the board was split, 2-2, on the motion to approve the special exception. A tied vote means the motion failed.

Megan Hall, president of Urbanna Main Street, was the only speaker on May 22 during the Urbanna Town Council’s public hearing on Urbanna’s proposed fiscal year (FY) 2025-2026 budget. Hall asked the council to help fund the organization that is working to uplift Urbanna as a whole. “Economic development does not happen in isolation. It takes vision, coordination and community wide support and we are ready and willing to do the work,” she told councilors.

The fate of a proposed $40 million commercial solar facility in Deltaville will be decided by four of the five members of the Middlesex Board of Supervisors. Pinetop District Supervisor Randy Crittenden, who represents Deltaville and the eastern end of the county, has recused himself from participating or voting on the special exception request for a solar facility on a 77-acre parcel, located at 1033 North End Road, Deltaville, which is owned by T.H. Crittenden and Son Inc.
