It was a mixed bag of Bradford City performances in their 2-1 win over Carlisle United. There were clear standouts in the victory, as there needed to be for such a tough game to be won. Port Vale have pulled off a major surprise by completing the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers. The 28-year-old was a popular figure at Hillsborough and although he slipped down the pecking order under Danny Rohl, there was sadness when he departed S6 for good. He had ended the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Blackpool and talks were said to have taken place about a return to Bloomfield Road.

Sheffield Wednesday, QPR and Middlesbrough men are among the frontrunners to join Barnsley in the summer transfer window. While others have flown out of the traps in the window, it has not been particularly busy early on at Oakwell. Work is ongoing behind closed doors but Conor Hourihane remains the only new addition ahead of the 2024/25 season. Fans will understandably be keen to see new faces arrive, especially considering there has been a spate of exits since the club’s last play-off heartbreak.

Former Leeds United coach Rene Maric has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant Sunderland job. The Black Cats are on the hunt for a new head coach, having ended the 2023/24 season with a caretaker at the helm. Mike Dodds had stepped in temporarily following Michael Beale’s axing, having previously done so when Tony Mowbray was dismissed.
