Everybody loves, loves, LOVES the Patriots' 2025 draft class. A sampling of knee-jerk national draft grades shows New England didnât just have the most-loved draft by a little. It was kind of a landslide. đđ§đ»âđ IÂŽve compiled 20 evaluations of the 2024 NFL draft and totaled the team grades. Here is the spreadsheet. Sorted by GPA for all 32 teams. I also sorted the 20 evaluations by GPA. From left (soft graders) to right (hard graders).

The New England Patriots have a top-five pick for the second consecutive year. But will they keep it? New head coach Mike Vrabel and his staff enter Thursday's first round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the No. 4 overall pick and a host of needs, most notably at offensive tackle, wide receiver and edge rusher.

Know why these next three days of player-picking will be fun? Because the Patriots need guys at fun spots. Would you rather talk defensive tackle, inside linebacker and slot corner? Or wide receiver, running back, tight end and left tackle? I'll take the latter. And the Patriots might be taking players at all those spots with their nine picks. It will be fascinating because now, truly, the Patriots are being re-made with a different vision from Bill Belichick's.

At last year's NFL Owners Meetings, Robert Kraft made clear what he thinks is necessary to carry a team to long-term excellence. "In the end, you can't win in this league consistently unless you have a first-rate quarterback and a first-rate coach."Nobody's gonna fight him on that. But if all you have are those two - and with Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel, the Patriots tentatively think they do - you're still screwed. And right now, the Patriots don't have much more.

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Since Mike Vrabel was hired, we've spent a lot of time wondering where, exactly, the buck stops. Who's got final say? Who decides the tiebreakers? Who's in charge down there, really? Vrabel wasn't asked about that Monday at the NFL Owners Meetings. But one of his answers was very illuminating about how he views the pecking order.
