A discrepancy with "no rational explanation" is causing criminal justice advocates to call for Governor Kathy Hochul to make changes to New York's parole board, and for the legislature to pass parole reform bills this session. It's rooted in a report by the Center on Race, Inequality and the Law at NYU, which analyzed data from 2022 to March 2025, finding that after a State Parole Board hearing, the board was 33 percent more likely to release a white person, compared to a black person.

Schenectady — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security released a list on Friday, naming states and local jurisdictions they say obstruct the enforcement of Federal immigration laws, or "sanctuary jurisdictions". DHS says this is required under a Donald Trump Executive Order "Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens". The list is broken down by State, County and City. The list names New York as having "Self-Identification as a State Sanctuary Jurisdiction".

Last week, two immigrants were arrested by ICE agents at a law enforcement check point in the City of Cohoes. Officials say both men were in the country illegally. The presence of ICE though, sparked a reaction from immigration advocates along with other law enforcement entities who were present. New York State Police and NYS DMV officials say they left the checkpoint once they realized ICE was present.

Albany — Albany's Ten Broeck Mansion site is the latest Capital Region institution facing federal funding cuts, saying a nearly $500 thousand National Endowment for the Humanities grant has been rescinded. CBS6 previously reported that IMLS grants were rescinded for the Iroquois Museum in Howe's Cave and Albany's Underground Railroad. Iroquois Museum facing a $270,000 grant cut, the Underground Railroad $66,000 for two years for a youth summer program.
