Twenty years later, in August 2023, I returned as Principal for Data with the same enthusiasm and perhaps a deeper pride about NPC’s role in the sector. Back then, I was fresh out of Cambridge with a passion for maths and the charity sector, which I did not yet know how to bring together.

As a starting point, we will be attempting to settle on how Sheffield can be described in terms of its neighbourhoods (however we may choose to define them).

Data isn't, however, an end unto itself. Collecting, analysing and disseminating information doesn't necessarily turn into meaningful action. But why? What does it mean we can actually do?

    I once heard someone say at a conference that everything happens in a place. This really struck a chord with me and has informed how I think about data, the way it’s collected and what it represents. The concept of place is tricky though. For example…Do we all consider or perceive the same geographic area we live in as the same place? Do we perceive place as something other than geography, such as identity, networks or things of interest?
