The Music in Our LivesBy Tom MercerCarbondale-ishMy first exposure to music occurred when I was four or five years old. I lived on the banks of the Illinois River in Rome, Illinois. There was only one store in Rome. That store was where my mother would occasionally buy 45 rpm children’s records for me. The records mostly consisted of children’s songs and rhymes. The records themselves were bright blue, red and yellow. They were great entertainment for me at that age in our home by the river.

The FCA has published its proposed rules for companies seeking to admit securities to a UK regulated market or 'primary' multilateral trading facility (MTF) under the new regulatory framework established through the Public Offers and Admissions to Trading Regulations (POAT Regulations). Together with the POAT Regulations, the final form rules will, once implemented, replace the UK Prospectus Regulation (see Ashurst update here for further information).

The PCP proposes a new jurisdictional framework which would narrow the scope of the companies which are subject to the UK Takeover Code. Code jurisdiction was last reviewed by the Panel in 2012 (PCP & RS 2012/3) and then again as part of the Brexit review (PCP & RS 2018/2).

Louis “Lou” Dawson describes “Avalanche Dreams” as “a work of creative nonfiction” and he advises the reader that “while autobiographical in nature,” the book is “an approximation of the author’s lived experience.” The author, well known to most alpine and sport climbers, has changed some names in his book to protect people’s privacy.

Political and economic pressures from 2023Following on from a string of remarkable years, 2023 was no less interesting. Global tensions remained heightened, as demonstrated by the ongoing war in Europe and the evolving conflict in the Middle East. US politicians kept us entertained and, whilst the UK only had the one prime minister in 2023, political pressures were no less fraught this side of the Atlantic. In the UK, the year ended far less badly than many had predicted though.
