The 49ers’ 30 visits are complete and provide breadcrumbs to follow on how they may approach the NFL Draft. This is mock four of five on what I think they’ll do, the final version will go up before the draft begins in Green Bay Thursday night. THE TOP TENThe top three appear to be set, Miami QB Cam Ward, Colorado DB/WR Travis Hunter, and Penn State Edge Abdul Carter in that order. New England takes a tackle and reportedly prefers LSU’s Will Campbell.

The 49ers enter this draft needing stars while also searching for identity, who they are and how they’ll win. That leads to decisions on a deeper level than selecting the best player available. CHARACTER: Mike Green Mike Green, the player, answers every question. The Marshall edge is the NCAA leader in sacks with 17, is recognized by draft analysts as having the deepest arsenal of pass rush moves, can play the run and the pass.

You may fire when ready. 49ERSBROCK PURDY – We'll see whether the Niners and Purdy can compromise and when. Recent history says not until late August. His agent is trying to leverage his lottery ticket in Purdy and that will make it difficult to reach a deal. Timing will be key, the out for Purdy should coincide with moving on from Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch. I’m anticipating a three-year out for Purdy, then after the 2027 season the Niners could reboot to a new GM, coach, and QB.

Back in the day in the press box at Candlestick, I usually sat next to the advance scout for the next opponent. I’d answer questions on the 49ers and ask about scouting. One pearl from a scout, get greatness early, if you settle you’ve failed, stay aggressive. He cited Bill Walsh trading up in the draft for Jerry Rice - an aggressive move for a need, get the best, get playmakers. Worked out ok.

The Yorks impose austerity on the 49ers, saying they spent too much money on a 6-11 team. Management lets seven starters walk, pinches pennies, and makes their highest priority in free agency spending $28 million on two designated blockers who aren't offensive linemen. That's the call from Kyle Shanahan, the defacto GM with final personnel control, and why in my view this regime hasn’t and won’t win a championship. 1.

Lots of draft talk in my latest column. https://t.co/fTOX3wMbyj

I gave in to the fan crack and did a PFN mock. A lot of these there's no way the player lasts to the pick, particularly the last three. Fun though. https://t.co/CciQo2JJwE

Jordan Mason dealt to Minnesota. Talked about this recently with @toughupfront77 and @ashaireonna that Mason being tendered set him up to be dealt. Kyle didn't trust him so a trade is best for all. 160 is a mid-5th, giving the Niners two picks in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Trade ammo.
