Morristown’s Jack Alexy led off for the gold medal-winning 4x100 meter men’s swimming relay in his Olympic debut Saturday. Some 3,600 miles away, his Delbarton School coach, Patrick Savidge, was watching him make history again. Alexy set state records during his time at Delbarton from 2017 to 2021. Savidge said Alexy stood out immediately for his 6’8” frame, but also his support for teammates and work ethic.

The investigation into how chunks of lead washed up along Keyport’s shore is set to begin Monday. About 200 yards of the shoreline will be closed while Department of Environmental Protection agents collect and analyze more of the oddly-shaped structures, known as slag, that have tested positive for lead. “We don't see this as an urgent risk to public health,” said NJDEP Commissioner Shawn LaTourrette.

Gov. Phil Murphy shed a little more light on his plans to fill Sen. Bob Menendez’s seat once the convicted senator steps down in August. Menendez’s resignation is effective Aug. 20 after the senator was found guilty of bribery in a federal corruption trial. The governor must now pick a new person to fill the seat for the remainder of the term. The Democratic senator was found guilty of taking bribes and acting as a foreign agent for the Egyptian government.

Mysterious rock-like pieces discovered along Keyport’s shore have been confirmed as toxic lead. From a distance, the hard, oddly-shaped chunks don't look different from the rocks that make up Keyport’s shore. But, they’re actually “slag” - a byproduct of manufacturing metals - and they’ve tested positive for lead. “It’s clearly dumped there because it's just concentrated in certain areas,” NY/NJ Baykeeper Greg Remaud said.
