    The Virginia Department of Health is warning people not to eat any sunfish, largemouth bass, chain pickerel or creek chubsucker fish caught in the White Oak Swamp in Eastern Henrico, after fish tissue samples of those species conducted between 2021 and 2023 showed elevated levels of “forever chemicals” known as PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate), a type of man-made chemicals known as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances).

    The Henrico School Board voted unanimously May 8 to authorize slight price increases for student and adult meals, with officials saying the change was necessary to address rising costs. Full-price student breakfasts will increase from $1.50 to $1.75 beginning in the fall, while full-price student lunches will increase by 10 cents to $3. The cost for adult breakfasts will increase by 10 cents, to $2.85, and the cost for adult lunches will jump by 20 cents to $4.85.

    Henrico Police officials are seeking the public's help in locating a missing 48-year-old county man. Gerard Anthony Harvell last was heard from on Tuesday, April 29, at about 1 p.m. There are concerns for his well-being. Harvell is a Black male, with black hair and brown eyes, 6 feet tall and about 190 pounds. He was last seen leaving his home in the 2700 block of Byron Street at about 10 a.m. April 29 in a grey 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
