One of the Olympics's more lofty ambitions is for it to act as a vehicle for peace. IOC president Thomas Bach and United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres met after the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, reiterating the importance of that fact. "It's important to say that the first real peace initiative recorded in history was the Olympic Truce," Guterres said.

Yual Reath has always wanted to make a name for himself. "Just to let them know who I am. Tell them my story," he explains. And who is Yual Reath? "I consider myself a weapon. The high jump king!" he cheekily proclaims. Reath's confidence belies a humble, hard-working landscape gardener from Ballarat who is now on the cusp of an Olympic dream. The 24-year-old has soared to new heights in 2024 and has almost certainly booked a spot for next month's Paris games in the men's high jump.
