The U.S. government is poised to eliminate the long-standing recommendation from its dietary guidelines that adults limit alcohol consumption to one or two drinks per day. If the expected change is made, it could help the industry, beset by a barrage of media coverage suggesting that alcohol consumption of any kind is not healthy. The changes could take place as soon as this month, according to an article in Reuters.

Just months after buying Classic Beverage and Stone Distributing Company in Southern California, Sunset Distribution Co. announced the acquisition of Scout Distribution, an independent craft beverage distributor covering in the Southern California region. Scout Distribution specializes in distributing craft alcoholic beverages throughout Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties as well as in Arizona and Idaho.

Brewers who ship beer by the pallet to wholesalers (or any destination) need to be aware of new shipping classifications that go into effect nationwide starting July 19. The new rules create new freight classes for all loads that are shipped LTL (less-than-truckload). According to a bulletin published by the Brewers Association (BA), the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) is moving to a new system of freight classification which is based solely on freight density.

Boston Beer Company’s 2025 Brewing & Business Experienceship has been awarded to Moor’s Brewing Co. in Chicago. Founded by Damon Patton, Jamhal Johnson, and Anthony Bell, Moor’s Brewing Co. was opened in 2021 as Chicago’s first Black-owned brewery and taproom.

Three East Coast craft brewers, Bald Birds Brewing Co. and Yards Brewing Co. in Pennsylvania and Connecticut’s Two Roads Brewing are uniting to form B3 Beverage Company, a full-service contract brewing entity. The service will provide co-packing production and consultation for both alcoholic and non-alcohol beverages including beer, RTD, seltzer, soda, canned cocktails and other emerging beverages.

Gov also “recommended” that eight additional counties on "watch list" issue the same order. Those eight counties are Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sacramento, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Stanislaus.

Gov just ordered 7 counties to close bars and alc-only service effective immediately. Alcohol sales for on-site consumption without meals will not be allowed at brewery tasting rooms. Counties are Fresno, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, San Joaquin and Tulare.
