    The Beer Institute published its unofficial estimate of taxable removals shipments by beer brewers for February 2025 which was down 14.9% compared to February 2024. The decrease follows a decline of 8.7% in January compared to January 2024February 2025 estimates were 10,300,000 barrels, compared to February 2024 removals of 12,104,263 barrels.

    The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) prospective plantings and grain stocks report indicates that barley producers intend to plant a record low 2.32 million acres of barley for the 2025 crop year, down 2 percent from the previous year. In Montana, the largest barley state, acreage is expected to decrease by 11 percent from last year. Planted area is also at a record low in California, Colorado, New York, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.

    Left Hand Brewing, the third largest independent brewery in Colorado has announced the acquisition of fellow Colorado craft brewer Dry Dock Brewing. The acquisition, which comes just a day after another major acquisition in Colorado with the merger of Great Dived and Wilding Brands, shows that there is still a strong appetite for craft brewers to join together in an attempt to stay competitive in a quickly evolving and challenging market.

Gov also “recommended” that eight additional counties on "watch list" issue the same order. Those eight counties are Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sacramento, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Stanislaus.

Gov just ordered 7 counties to close bars and alc-only service effective immediately. Alcohol sales for on-site consumption without meals will not be allowed at brewery tasting rooms. Counties are Fresno, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, San Joaquin and Tulare.
