Wine had an even worse first quarter with volume declining by 9.9% and revenue down 10.5%. Where wine had previously seen revenue growth outpace volume, the latest figures show volume now leading revenue – a reversal that analysts say will be important to watch in the months ahead.

Scientist have developed a smartphone-based colorimetry for the analysis of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) in beer utilizing headspace sampling coupled with smartphone-based colorimetry. The technology allows for an inexpensive green analytical method for monitoring DMS in beer. As all brewers know, DMS contributes significantly to the flavor profile of beer. Its presence is desirable at low concentration levels. However, it becomes an off-flavor at high concentrations.
