Just months after buying Classic Beverage and Stone Distributing Company in Southern California, Sunset Distribution Co. announced the acquisition of Scout Distribution, an independent craft beverage distributor covering in the Southern California region. Scout Distribution specializes in distributing craft alcoholic beverages throughout Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties as well as in Arizona and Idaho.

Brewers who ship beer by the pallet to wholesalers (or any destination) need to be aware of new shipping classifications that go into effect nationwide starting July 19. The new rules create new freight classes for all loads that are shipped LTL (less-than-truckload). According to a bulletin published by the Brewers Association (BA), the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) is moving to a new system of freight classification which is based solely on freight density.

Three East Coast Craft Brewers Unite to Form New Contract Brewing Service

Three East Coast craft brewers, Bald Birds Brewing Co. and Yards Brewing Co. in Pennsylvania and Connecticut’s Two Roads Brewing are uniting to form B3 Beverage Company, a full-service contract brewing entity. The service will provide co-packing production and consultation for both alcoholic and non-alcohol beverages including beer, RTD, seltzer, soda, canned cocktails and other emerging beverages.

Colorado beverage company Wilding Brands has acquired yet another brewery, the latest in a string of brewery and beverage company purchases over the last year. The latest purchase is Station 26 Brewing Company, founded in a converted Denver fire station 12 years ago. Wilding Brands formed last year as a result of the merger of Stem Ciders, Denver Beer Co., and Funkwerks. In April they made a major acquisition with the purchase of Great Divide Brewing Company which was founded by Brian Dunn in 1994.

30-Year Old Ska Brewing Sells to Two Durango Families

Ska Brewing Company, founded in 1995 in Durango, Colorado, by Bill Graham and Dave Thibodeau has been sold. The company, fueled by a love for ska music was sold to the Ariano and West families. The Ariano family owns A&L Coors Distribution in Durango. Ska began as a small, home-town brewery where the two founders handled all aspects of the business, including brewing, marketing, delivery, and selling.
Nevada Finally Legalizes Satellite Taprooms for Brewers

A legislative bill, long in the making, has passed the Nevada legislature that finally legalizes brewers to have satellite taprooms. The bill also allows brewers to ship beer out of state direct-to-consumer to those states that allow it. The bill heads to the Governor’s desk where it is expected to be signed. The bill, AB 404 was sponsored by Assemblymember Howard Watts faced its final vote on the Seante floor where it passed 19-2.
NBWA Beer Purchasers’ Index Shows Continued Decline in Craft

The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) released the Beer Purchasers’ Index (BPI) for May 2025 which shows “sequential improvement over the preceding three months.” The combination of BPI readings moves the industry from contractionary territory to a more cautionary state. As the beer industry enters the summer selling season, the Beer Purchasers’ Index (45) and At-Risk Inventory (47) measures show sequential improvement over the preceding three months.
