Klein ISD is being sued by a former teacher who claims she was forced to resign in retaliation for reporting sex trafficking allegations against a fellow teacher. Desma Darden, a former special education teacher at Klein Cain High School, filed her lawsuit in February against the Houston-area school district and two people who served as administrators during the 2022-23 school year.

A Houston legislator and civil rights advocates voiced opposition this week to a proposed Texas law that would ban some people from designated foreign countries — such as China and Russia — from owning land in the state. House Bill 17, authored by Republican state Rep. Cole Hefner of northeast Texas, also would apply to some people from Iran and North Korea as well as any other country designated by the Texas governor.

CenterPoint Energy is partnering with two technology companies — Neara, a platform developer, and Osmose, an infrastructure data firm — to use artificial intelligence to help identify problems in its Houston-area power distribution system and prioritize repairs. Neara’s Robert Brook said the partnership will result in cost savings and more dependability for the 2.8 million CenterPoint customers in the Houston area.

A man accused of sexually assaulting a University of Houston student in a campus parking garage earlier this month was arrested Tuesday afternoon — hours after local authorities offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Eric Latroy Brown, 40, was arrested in the East Downtown area near the intersection of Texas Avenue and St. Emanuel Street, according to a social media post by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
