The Houston-to-Dallas bullet train project suffered a significant blow Monday as the federal government announced the abrupt termination of a planning grant for Amtrak — just seven months after it was awarded. The U.S. Department of Transportation said the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Amtrak, the national passenger railroad company of the United States, agreed to terminate the $63.9 million grant Amtrak was awarded last year to help move the project forward.

Former LSU receiver Kyren Lacy has died at age 24 in an apparent suicide in his car while being pursued by authorities in Houston, according to a Harris County Sheriff’s Office report released Sunday. Lacy already was facing criminal charges stemming from a fatal car crash in Louisiana last December that had clouded his NFL prospects. Harris County authorities say their pursuit of Lacy late Saturday night ended when Lacy crashed.

The United States and teams from six other countries or territories will compete next year at Daikin Park in downtown Houston, which will host World Baseball Classic games for the first time. The teams in each of the four pools, along with the schedule for the 20-team tournament, were announced Wednesday by officials for Major League Baseball (MLB) and the World Baseball Classic, which will have its sixth edition in 2026.
