    A move is being made to accelerate the inclusion of a decibel limit in proposals to deal with noisy vehicles which will go to the States later this month. An amendment has been submitted by Deputies Adrian Gabriel and Mark Helyar, who said that a decibel limit was necessary to provide the authorities with clarity and help them prevent excessive noise pollution and make sure that vehicles complied with expected community standards.

    Skip to main content More than 30 of the Bailiwick’s strongest people put their brawn to the test in Herm over the weekend, as part of the inaugural Herm Strongest competition. There were 36 competitors toughing it out over four strength-based events – tyre deadlift, log press, Conan’s Wheel and Hercules Hold – across eight different experience categories for both men and women, all while being cheered on by as many as 600 spectators, who had made the short journey over on the boat.

    The bunting – made out of various materials including old duvets and clothes as part of a ‘make do and mend’ theme inspired by the Occupation – is currently being stored in dozens of bags at the home of project organiser Megs Bailey after the deadline for contributions passed at the end of March. It is set to go up along the Bridge and a large section of the Town seafront in the coming weeks, with plans for it to remain in place after Liberation Day into the summer months.

    Skip to main content Proposals to allocate tens of thousands of pounds towards the upkeep of St Saviour’s community centre were unanimously backed at a parish meeting this week. Parishioners were asked to approve the setting aside of a contingency fund amounting to £20,000 for future repair work on the centre, as well as the collection of £10,000 towards legal fees relating to bringing the centre’s trust documents and governance role in line with current charities legislation.

The team has designed a range of dog bandannas, with the significance of the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day displayed front and centre on a backdrop of the Guernsey flag.
