(Des Moines) Drought conditions expanded across the state due to below-normal precipitation in May, according to the latest Water Summary Update. Following a drier-than-normal April, May experienced decreased rainfall across all regions of the state, leading to an increase in drought and abnormally dry conditions. While early rain events initially helped maintain stable dry conditions, lower rainfall amounts later in the month resulted in deteriorating conditions across Iowa.

(Allamakee, County) A motorcycle driver died when his motorcycle struck a deer in Allamakee County, Iowa. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened on Saturday at around 8:43 a.m. on northbound Highway 76 near the 42-mile marker. Authorities say 64-year-old Daniel M. Fisher, of Salem, Wisconsin, died in the accident. According to the report, Fisher was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson north on Highway 76, struck a deer in the roadway, and came to rest in the east ditches, ejecting Fisher.

Randy Dickhut farmland sales expert with Agricultural Economic Insights, says the cyclical up-and-down nature of farmland prices is typical. He says the prices started peaking in the “I” states in the early 2020s. Other states stood out both positively and negatively.
