The PIAA state semifinals take place this upcoming weekend — Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22 — at high school gyms across the state, with 48 teams still alive in 12 different brackets across six classifications on the boys and girls’ sides. That includes 16 teams from the Philadelphia area still alive, with eight local squads playing on Friday and eight on Saturday.

Andre Noble’s Panthers entered Saturday’s PIAA 6A quarterfinal against Parkland on a 34-game state tournament winning streak going back to a semifinal loss to Neumann-Goretti exactly nine years prior — March 15, 2016.

There’s still plenty of Philly-area talent left in the various brackets, including 15 teams who will play a quarterfinal game on Friday night: one in the girls’ 3A field, two in boys’ 4A, three in boys’ 1A, four in boys’ 5A and five in girls’ 6A, which has all four quarterfinals with at least one local squad in the mix.
