Last Thursday, the Broncos staff cranked up the heat in the Caven-Williams indoor facility and made it as humid as possible, the first prep for the season opener at South Florida in Tampa. It was a sticky, stifling sweatbox.

Lakers go to Game 7 against each other in the NBA Finals. And the Lakers came from behind to win it, 83-79, repeating as champions and claiming their 17th NBA crown, one short of the Celtics’ record. For two-time Finals MVP Kobe Bryant, it was his sixth title.

BOISE, Idaho — This Day In Sports…June 16, 2015, 10 years ago today: The Golden State Warriors win their first NBA championship in 40 years with a 105-97 victory in Cleveland. The Warriors took the Finals four games-to-two despite a game effort in the series by Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, who became the first player in history to lead both teams in points, rebounds and assists through an NBA Finals. The Warriors and Cavs split Games 1 and 2, which both went into overtime (a Finals first).

BOISE, Idaho — This Day In Sports…June 13, 2000, 25 years ago today: Steve Young announces his retirement from the San Francisco 49ers. Young successfully emerged from the longest shadow imaginable—that of four-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Joe Montana. And by the time he finished his career, he was the highest-rated passer at the time in NFL history. Young won one Super Bowl as a starting QB and two as Montana’s backup, and he yearned for another.

BOISE, Idaho — This Day In Sports…June 12, 1997: In a drastic but long-awaited departure for a tradition-governed sport, the San Francisco Giants beat the Texas Rangers, 4-3, in the first regular-season interleague game in Major League Baseball history. A sellout crowd of 46,507 at Arlington watched Nolan Ryan and Willie Mays throw out ceremonial first pitches before the game, which started two hours earlier than three other interleague games that night.
