The Greens party, which received one in every eight primary votes (12.25%) at the last federal election, want a slice of the fortunes of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, proposing a “big tech tax” as Australia gears up to head to the polls in the coming months. Greens communications spokesperson senator Sarah Hanson-Young said that under the plan revenue in excess of $20 million earned from digital services in Australia will be taxed at a rate of 3%.

Apple says it plans to introduce age assurance technologies which can tell social media platforms if a user is underage, before Australia implements a ban of under-16s from such platforms in late 2025. The tech giant’s announcement pushes back against companies such as Snap and Meta, which have called for device manufacturers like Apple and Google to be responsible for verifying users’ ages at the app store or operating system level, instead of by social media apps.

Global contractor credentials platform MyPass has raised $7.5 million Series A. The round for the 12-year-old worker onboarding, compliance and credentials management business, which counts BHP, Shell, Woodside and UGL among its customer base, was led by Sydney VC OneVentures. The capital will be used for expansion in North and South America and accelerate product development. MyPass previously raised an undisclosed Seed round from ASX-listed Scalare Partners in 2020.
