BELMONT, N.Y. — Allegany County issued a state of emergency on Friday night, citing dangerous flooding and road conditions, putting in place both a Travel Ban and a Travel Advisory for different areas until further notice. This comes after a Flash Flood Warning was issued for parts of Cattaraugus and Allegany counties until 11:45 p.m. Friday. Areas around Cuba, Friendship, and Alfred have seen some of the worst of the flooding.
Buffalo's Seneca Street to undergo a $23M upgrade

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A big transformation is on the way for Seneca Street in Buffalo. Starting next month, the city will kick off the first phase of a $23 million reconstruction project. The initial phase will focus on the area between Wildwood Place and Mineral Springs Road. Upgrades will be made to roadways, sidewalks, curbs, and streetlights. City leaders said Friday the goal is to breathe new life into this busy corridor, and to make things more smooth for drivers and pedestrians.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Students from three local schools launched their hand-built boats into Hoyt Lake on Friday. The event was part of the Buffalo Maritime Center's annual student boat launch. The students have been working on the boats all school year through the Maritime Center's Hand-To-Hand Student Boatbuilding Program. Organizers told 2 On Your Side the program teaches useful skills in and out of the classroom. Those canoes will be available to rent at Hoyt Lake all summer long.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Warmer weather is here, and the Buffalo Niagara Dragon Boat Festival is officially back. The 21st annual festival will be hosted by Hope Chest Buffalo at Buffalo RiverWorks, located at 359 Ganson St. More than 30 teams from across Western New York come together for day of racing, celebration, and community. The opening ceremony, called Awakening of the Dragon, is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday.

Bye's Popcorn announced on social media Friday that the owner's children will keep the family tradition alive and run the stand. This comes just two months after the property and business went on the market. BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Depew man faces up to 10 years in prison after being accused of recently entering a secure area at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport without permission. According to federal prosecutors on Friday, 45-year-old James R. Muench Jr. forcefully rammed his pickup truck several times against a closed security gate back around 7:30 a.m. on May 20. Gate 1 eventually gave way.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The death of a local volunteer firefighter has officially been declared a 9/11, cancer-related Line of Duty Death. Ellicott Creek Volunteer Fire Company on Thursday provided an update on Ron Smeller, who died of cancer on March 10, 2020. Smeller was part of a statewide mutual aid request in the weeks following 9/11 and spent time in Lower Manhattan during rescue and recovery efforts.
Three teens facing charges in connection to a stolen vehicle

DUNKIRK, N.Y. — Three teens — ages 16, 16, and 14 — are facing charges in connection to a stolen vehicle. Dunkirk Police accused the juveniles of steaking a vehicle on the 700 block of Deer Street past midnight on Sunday. Those teens, and the car, were located around 2 a.m. Sunday in the Town of Brant by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. "The juveniles were identified and arraigned on charges in Erie County," Dunkirk Police said in a statement.
A woman faces a felony charge for allegedly stealing from her employer

SALAMANCA, N.Y. — A Salamanca woman is facing a felony charge for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from her employer. The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office said Amy Hushon took more than $21,000 in cash from the Seneca Nation Optical Division. Officials said it happened "over a continuous period of time" while she worked there. Hushon has been charged with grand larceny in the third degree. Hushon is scheduled to appear in Salamanca City Court at a later date.

This year's lineup features big acts such as Foreigner and Shaggy, along with fan favorites like the demolition derby. Tickets include same-day fair admission and go on sale at 10 a.m. morning at the Erie County Fair website. The fair runs from Aug. 6 to Aug. 17.
