WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Carlton Dotson, the former Baylor University basketball player whose shooting death of teammate Patrick Dennehy in 2003 incited one of the darkest episodes in school history, is back in Waco after being released on parole. Dotson, 43, served about 19 years of a 35-year prison term after pleading guilty to murder and was released on parole to McLennan County on Nov. 19, 2024, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The chief judge of a federal appellate court has dismissed a complaint of alleged “aberrant and inappropriate conduct” against a federal magistrate in Waco in the wake of the magistrate’s recent retirement. In a three-page order issued May 29, Chief Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says that action on the complaint is no longer necessary “because of intervening events” that have concluded the inquiry.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco woman who claims she was subjected to a hostile work environment, discrimination, ageist remarks and sexual harassment before being fired after filing a complaint has filed a lawsuit against a local funeral home. J’Nette Allred, 70, is seeking more than $1 million in damages in her lawsuit against Park Lawn Memorial Group LLC., parent company of Waco Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6623 S. Interstate 35.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco man who beat a woman’s face so badly that a witness thought she was wearing a frightful Halloween mask was sentenced to 16 years in prison Tuesday. Ricardo Anthony Burciaga, 32, was on trial in Waco’s 19th State District Court for repeated violations of a protective order.
