    The European Court of Justice is to rule on whether or not European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was wrong to withhold text messages she shared with the head of a major drug company over a multi-billion euro contract to supply hundreds of millions of Covid vaccines at the height of the pandemic. The case was taken by the New York Times after the Commission refused to release the messages Ms von der Leyen had shared with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla in 2021.

    At around 12.30pm local time, there was a sudden and devastating problem on a Spanish power line. In five seconds, the Iberian network lost 15 GW of power, approximately 60% of normal consumer demand. The sudden blackout crippled transport networks, shut cash machines, knocked out traffic lights and switched off thousands of computers. The problem spread to Portugal and France.

The Trump administration has openly talked of relaxing sanctions on Vladimir Putin's Russia and boosting economic ties, even before a single concession has been made by the Kremlin.

    Tánaiste Simon Harris is attending a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg which will be overshadowed by the Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy which killed 34 people and injured scores of others. The attack on civilians, who were returning from Palm Sunday religious services, has been widely condemned. Last night the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, who represents 27 EU leaders, described the attack as criminal.
