The proposal came as the weeks-long blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza was having a critical effect.     Dozens of European leaders have arrived in the Albanian capital Tirana for the sixth summit of the European Political Community, the organisation comprising EU and other continental leaders. The summit will be overshadowed by the trilateral peace talks involving Ukrainian, Russian and Turkish officials in Istanbul. Leaders will focus on security and defence, as well as migration and EU enlargement.

    The European Court of Justice is to rule on whether or not European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was wrong to withhold text messages she shared with the head of a major drug company over a multi-billion euro contract to supply hundreds of millions of Covid vaccines at the height of the pandemic. The case was taken by the New York Times after the Commission refused to release the messages Ms von der Leyen had shared with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla in 2021.
