A St. Petersburg homeowner fatally shot a home invasion suspect early Wednesday, police said. Two men entered a home in the 3400 block of 40th Street North in the Disston Heights neighborhood about 2 a.m., according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. The homeowner fired shots, hitting one of the men. The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital, where he died. He has not been identified, police said. The second man left the home after the shots were fired.

A St. Petersburg police officer was arrested Tuesday after investigators determined he gave confidential information to a suspect accused of leaving improvised explosive devices inside Tampa’s Seminole Hard Rock Casino last year, authorities said. Officer Brandon Klaiber, 40, was arrested on two counts of offenses against intellectual property and has been suspended without pay, the St. Petersburg Police Department announced in a news release.
