    Fort Wayne could soon see more accessory dwelling units but only in neighborhoods that allow them. Fort Wayne City Council on Tuesday amended a zoning ordinance to allow secondary dwellings to be added to single-family properties. Those include accessory dwelling units, which are smaller, independent-living spaces on the same property as a primary residence. The proposal passed after changes that allow neighborhood restrictions to be more tightly enforced.

    Mayor Sharon Tucker asked Monday that all Fort Wayne residents take a moment of silence at noon Friday to honor former Mayor Tom Henry's death one year earlier. The request included that churches with bells ring them shortly after noon. She also asked that flags in Fort Wayne will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Friday. Henry, Fort Wayne’s mayor of about 16 years died March 28, 2024, after a brief battle with late-stage stomach cancer.

    Construction of the new more than $300 million Allen County Jail remains on schedule and on budget. The commissioners announced Sunday that foundational construction is almost finished. Concrete foundation walls have been completed and backfilled. Excavation and installation of underground electrical conduit sleeves through foundation walls, rough grading of the site and site storm, water and sewer pipes have all been completed, a news release said.
