    Though Ball State softball kicked off its third day of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) softball championship with a 5-4 victory over No. 6 Akron Friday afternoon, the No. 4 Cardinals ended their postseason run with an 8-0 loss to No. 1 Miami. In the Cardinals’ win over the Zips, it was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish. Akron started the day with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a passed ball and an RBI single.

    In the heart of Muncie’s Blaine neighborhood on the southeast side of the city, 13 acres of overgrown land, garbage, and cracked slabs of leftover foundation lie behind a 12-foot barbed wire fence. To the right of a padlocked entrance, a sign, defaced by graffiti, reads, “Future site of the Urban Training Farm. Please respect our boundaries while we clean up. Thank you!” This sign has been hanging on the site for almost 10 years.

Her legacy spans 137 games, a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament Championship, an appearance in the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, countless awards and countless records. Ball State women’s basketball head coach Brady Sallee said it was genuinely exciting to see Becki progress on the court over four years.

Minutes after walking McKenna down the third-base line for Ball State softball’s senior day, the tears that ran down his face were hidden by dark sunglasses. “I don't think when she started playing when she was six [years old] that I expected it to be anything more than an opportunity to go out there and bond with my daughter,” John said.
