They couldn’t seem to peel their attention off her and the small, alien-looking creature that clung to her chest. Nestled in the crook of Sirih’s arm was an infant orangutan — a boy, a nameless clump of auburn hair born less than a week before on Feb. 20. He’s the first baby orangutan born at the Indianapolis Zoo since 2016.

campus The annual LGBTQ+ Health Care Conference, hosted by the IU School of Medicine, was canceled Jan. 29 because of “challenging” timing given state legislation, executive associate dean Mary Dankoski said during a University Faculty Council meeting Tuesday. “In considering the conference, we thought the timing could be challenging given that there is legislation currently under consideration at the State House that could have a direct impact on this specific work,” Dankoski said.

The move comes after a flurry of government action against diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at the state and federal levels. Representatives for IU, the IU School of Medicine and IU Health have not responded to requests for comment.

After a water main break Jan. 24 damaged the intersection, further work is required to finish repairs to the road. Only right-turn lanes will remain open during the closure.

city politics Republican Todd Rokita was reelected Indiana attorney general Tuesday in a race considered more contentious than previous elections, The Associated Press called at 8:47 p.m.Rokita, Indiana’s 44th attorney general, is defeating Democrat Destiny Wells by 59.1%, with 47% of votes counted as of publication. He was first elected to the position in 2020, beating Democrat Jonathan Weinzapfel by a margin of more than 16%.
