(OPINION) “I blinked my eyes and in an instant, decades had passed,” wrote poet John Mark Green. I felt that this week while attending the annual Religion News Association (RNA) conference in Arlington, Virginia. At a professor’s nudge, I first attended a conference in the early 2000s. I don’t remember what city it was in, or even the exact year.I do remember how awkward it felt. I stood shyly by myself — away from the religion reporters I admired so much — when I should have been networking.

A poet once said, “The busy have no time for tears.” Lately, I hardly have time for a sniffle. My plate is usually full – too full – but I admit that April’s approach has me feeling overwhelmed. In the coming weeks, I’m serving on three panels – one local, one virtual and one in D.C. – while also delivering a keynote and two workshops at a Chicago conference. Most exciting, though, is the FāVS “Uniting the Inland Northwest” citywide gathering on April 27.
