    BURNS, Ore. — The Harney County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday it has suspended the active search for a woman who’s been missing for a week. Kaylee Birt was last seen leaving The Fields Station in her car on April 4. Birt was reportedly driving from Klamath Falls to Iowa. The gold 2008 Chevy Malibu was found Sunday morning in a remote part of southern Harney County where the road had washed out, but Birt was not with it.

    SALEM, Ore. – The Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Wildfire voted unanimously Tuesday to send a proposal to potentially repeal the controversial Oregon Wildfire Hazard Map to a full Senate vote. Democrats and Republicans are both applauding the move, which also repeals the property maintenance rules for higher-hazard areas. The map was approved under 2021's Senate Bill 762, but has been under assault after the 2022 version and the updated map were rolled out.

    BEND, Ore. -- The group behind the annual Juneteenth celebrations at Drake Park in Bend is canceling this year's event, citing a "volatile political climate" and racial threats. It came the same day that the Latino Community Association announced it was canceling Latino Fest over rising fear within the Latino community. The Father's Group made the announcement about Juneteenth on Facebook Monday night.

    BEND, Ore. -- Rep. Emerson Levy, D-Bend, announced legislation Monday aimed preventing sex offenders from being allowed inside schools. It comes nearly three years after a convicted child sex offender was allowed through a secure door at a Bend middle school. House Bill 3839 requires Oregon State Police to ensure that Level 1 and Level 2 sex offender information is available to school districts and entities that manage visitor services for school districts.

    BEND, Ore. -- A project to build a new roundabout in Northeast Bend, closing a busy intersection for months, has been delayed a few days. The intersection is Deschutes Market Road and Yeoman Road, next to Pine Nursery Park. It's currently a three-way intersection with a stop sign on Yeoman. It's slated to become a four-way roundabout with Yeoman Road set to be extended to the east. A four-month closure to build the roundabout was set to start this week, but has been delayed to Monday, April 14.
