GRAWN — A small group of community members gathered Friday morning at Menards on U.S. 31 to walk 2 miles together, bearing the weight of a 30-pound, 11-foot cross. The purpose of the hike was to commemorate Good Friday, the Christian holiday that marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. And, in taking the walk and lifting up the cross, they also hoped to lift up the friend who had started it. In 2015, John Woodcox sought to do something that would help him in the wake of his wife’s death.

Local residents, Little River Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians conservation officers and the Department of Natural Resources workers conducted a search to find the injured bird, and she was brought to the Skegemog Raptor Center in Traverse City.

Local residents, Little River Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians conservation officers and the Department of Natural Resources workers conducted a search to find the injured bird, and she was brought to the Skegemog Raptor Center in Traverse City. Kyle Gunderson, conservation officer for the Little River Band, was part of the team that had spotted the bird.

Mar. 21—TRAVERSE CITY — A former Glen Lake Community Schools band director waived his right to a preliminary examination Wednesday and the case was bound over to circuit court. The year was 2000, and he had been living the retirement life for almost 10 years then. “I told my wife, ‘This looks like a good place to retire.’ And she said, ‘Yeah, it does.’ But we had to determine if we could last a winter.
