After a disappointing showing in Game 5, the Edmonton Oilers are one game away from again losing the Stanley Cup Final. Consecutive defeats by the Florida Panthers in the final would leave a serious organizational sting. The Panthers have again proven to be a matchup problem for the Oilers and after the trouncing in Game 5, you can rest assured Kris Knoblauch and Edmonton’s coaching staff have every potential lineup change on the table. How did we get here?

The Edmonton Oilers are four wins shy of their first Stanley Cup since the 1990 season. Standing in their way, an emerging rival in the Florida Panthers — the same club that infamously shut the door on last year’s championship bid in seven games. That Stanley Cup Final was a roller coaster of a series.

Why can’t the Toronto Maple Leafs win in the playoffs? This deep into the run of futility, there are endless theories. For a decade now, the Maple Leafs have been reliably two things: regular season outperformers, and playoff underperformers. It’s as maddening a mix as you can find. They’ve overhauled the front office. They’ve fired coaching staffs. At this point, there’s nothing left to do but turn attention to the core of the lineup.

Last June, the Detroit Red Wings traded defenceman Jake Walman to the San Jose Sharks. Having grown impatient with his development and looking for cap flexibility, the Red Wings even paid the Sharks a second-round pick just to absorb Walman’s contract. The return? Future considerations. Fast forward one year, and Walman is eight wins from seeing his name engraved on the Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oilers. And what a worthy engravement it would be.

How hot is Mikko Rantanen right now? In one word: scorching. The Dallas Stars entered the Stanley Cup Playoffs with some of the shortest championship odds and, three games into the second round, it appears justified. They dispatched the feisty Colorado Avalanche in round one and now sit with a 2-1 lead (and home-ice advantage) over the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets. The Jets, much like the Avalanche before them, have had a whale of a time against this deep, skilled Stars lineup.

I cannot think of a less likely scenario, maybe in the history of mankind, than “anti-Trump investors will flock to TSLA..” 0.00000%

Here's the piece I wrote for the @nypost last Sunday; the problem for $TSLA shareholders is that the Trump battle might focus investors on the company's fundamentals, which aren't great. Conversely, maybe some of those anti-MAGA types who like EVs might come back to the company
