The most underrated aspect of having a job covering sports is the sheer amount of music you digest on the countless road trips every season. It’s during these road trips when I have had my music taste change and evolve on a year-to-year basis. It’s to the point where I associate certain key moments in local sports to certain types of music I was listening to at the time.

OAKLAND — The Oakland Oaks opened the 2025 Fayette County Baseball League season on Sunday by splitting a road doubleheader with the Youghiogheny Valley Bulldogs. The Bulldogs took the first game, 2-1, before the Oaks bounced back in the nightcap with a convincing 11-4 victory. In game one, both teams’ pitchers went the distance in the low-scoring affair.

CUMBERLAND — Every play matters in a tight game, and on Monday, Brayden Upole rose to the occasion. In the sixth inning while holding onto a slim two-run lead, Upole made a diving stop and flipped the ball to second to keep a runner from reaching scoring position, and then he followed with a clean play in the seventh as he fielded a grounder and connected with Cole Folk for the game-clinching 6-4-3 double play.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Demolition efforts have begun at the Walter Neller Building in downtown Lansing, which is being torn down after receiving a red-tag designation in October 2016. In a video posted to Facebook Wednesday afternoon, heavy machinery can be seen demolishing a portion of the building. Last December, the Lansing City Council ordered the property owners, the Granger Group, to either make the property, located at 122 S. Grand Avenue, safe or demolish it in 60 days.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety is investigating a shooting after a 16-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. The department says officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Peacock Walk in Blackman Township at approximately 1:28 a.m. Wednesday morning for reports of a shooting. Officers arrived to find the boy with a gunshot wound to the head. He was unresponsive but still breathing.
