There’s nothing quite like leisurely reading a Saturday newspaper while sipping a cuppa, catching up on the news, sport and weather, while saving time for the crosswords, travel, lifestyle and opinion pieces when you get a gap later in the day. This morning will be the last time you can walk or drive to your local shop, fork out your hard-earned cash and buy a Saturday Citizen. Sadly, due to reasons out of our hands, today marks the last edition of Saturday Citizen.

This week, we are moving to Caxton’s Craighall office, having been stationed west of Joburg since the late ’90s. Just over a month ago, I struck up a conversation with a stranger outside the Crocodile Bridge offices after we both made it by the skin of our teeth to get to the Kruger National Park’s southern gates before they closed for the evening. While I’m well aware that missing the curfew would result in a fine, I always tend to cut it very close to closing time, trying to squeeze every second out of the experience before we exit.
