    Anticyclonic gloom isn’t a dungeon synth project from 2024, but someone should patent the name if they haven’t already. It’s what the Met Office called the wave of relentless grey weather across the UK in early autumn, when skies stayed the same colour as the roads. That explains early November, but what about the rest of the year? 2024 has been bleak on levels more than climatic, although the prospects for the climate’s future are also pretty depressing.     You probably wouldn’t have bet on Sly & The Family Drone sticking around this long. Born of a DIY scene of short-lived projects and constantly reconfiguring participants, their pursuit of transcendent abandon through noise seemed destined to burn itself out. As much as their chaotic mash up of instant composition methods and low-key spectacle made for a brilliant, exultant, live experience, the jokey name and carnival atmosphere suggested they were here for a good time, not for a long time.

    Barreiro-based festival OUT.FEST has shared the full lineup for its 2024 edition, which takes place next month. The Portuguese event celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and will newly take in sets from Mariam Rezaei; Nídia & Valentina (who will debut their new collaborative album, Estradas); Jules Reidy; Dreamcrusher; Nkisi; Chuquimamani-Condori; and OKO DJ, among others.
