Alien: Covenant's jet-black ending finally allowed Ridley Scott to pay off one of his wishes for the original movie. There was much excitement following the announcement of Scott's return to the Alien franchise after 30 years. However, his planned prequel soon morphed into Prometheus, which was more of a spinoff than a direct follow-up. Both Prometheus and Covenant would prove to be some of the most divisive outings in a franchise that already featured Alien Resurrection and Alien Vs Predator.
