Nature is alive with warmer weather and the Associated Artists of Butler County are about to unveil some unique artwork as part of a new show. The annual Spring and Floral Exhibit begins Friday with a reception open to the public from 7 to 9 p.m.This show featuring painting, photography, sculpture, and botanical arrangements will be available for viewing at the Butler Art Center on South Main Street through June 14th. Local students will enjoy a Carnival Day tomorrow while others will be performing a wide variety of music. As part of the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program, Mars Area Elementary School is holding the gathering with assistance from High School student volunteers. Students will each receive four tickets to use at stations offering games, athletic activities, music, and more.

A Philadelphia man accused of killing a Muddy Creek Township man has filed a motion to be let out due to delays in his trial. 26-year-old Paris Carter of Philadelphia is accused of killing David Hines of New Castle and leaving him on the side of the road in Portersville after the two got into an argument in May 2021. Delays in the trial has led attorney’s for Carter to file for Rule 600, which asks for criminal charges to be dismissed if a trial isn’t brought with in one year.

The public is invited out to Moraine State Park later this week to enjoy a fun activity in the great outdoors. On Friday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. a Family Fishing Day is planned at the Point shoreline just beyond Pleasant Valley Beach on the South Shore. Participants will be able to learn basic fishing skills like knot tying, casting, baiting, and removing a fish from a hook. No license is required and all equipment will be provided but adults must bring a child and children must bring an adult.

The state is unveiling a new tool that aims to prevent thefts from happening to those who use EBT cards. The new feature will allow card-holders to lock their EBT card through the ConnectEBT app. It gives the option for people to lock the card everywhere, or just out of the state. Officials say this is one way for SNAP users to protect their benefits. You can access the feature by downloading the ConnectEBT app.
