This spring marks the first time in two years that the cherry blossom trees outside the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry have bloomed in Chicago, and I knew I wanted to test my newly acquired drone piloting skills to capture the blossoms. The dynamic lighting of this shot from the setting sun really pushes the colors around the Columbia Basin.

    The murder trial of a former Illinois sheriff's deputy who fatally shot Sonya Massey, an unarmed black woman, in her Springfield home last summer will be moved out of the capital city. Circuit Judge Ryan Cadagin granted the defense request Tuesday. He will move the trial to Peoria, about an hour's drive north of Springfield. Prosecutors did not object.

    A total lunar eclipse turned the moon a deep coppery red across the Western Hemisphere early Friday. The Earth cast a shadow that completely blocked the moon during the overnight hours, with peak viewing in the Chicago area occurring around 2 a.m.The natural phenomenon, often called a “blood moon,” required no special equipment to view, as bits of sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere created the distinctive red glow.
