The U.S. Department of Education has launched an investigation of Evanston-Skokie District 64, accusing the school district of segregating students based on race. The federal inquiry follows a complaint filed by the Southeastern Legal Foundation on behalf of one of the district’s drama teachers, Stacy Deemar. AMC Theaters will open its newest theater in the South Loop this Friday. The AMC Roosevelt 16 location will open in the Roosevelt Collection retail complex — replacing the former ShowPlace Icon Theatre that closed last summer. Tickets are now on sale for shows beginning Friday, the company announced Wednesday. Fourteen of the 16 auditoriums are expected to be open by May 2. The theater will include power-reclining seats, which guests can reserve ahead of the show.

A Dolton police officer is accused of fraudulently receiving thousands of dollars in federal Paycheck Protection Program loans for his Off Duty Security business. William Frederick Reed of suburban Hazel Crest was charged Monday with providing false statements to the Small Business Administration, bankruptcy fraud, concealment or destruction of bankruptcy records, failure to file a tax return and perjury on tax returns, according to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

A Waukegan man has been charged with concealing the death of a missing Antioch woman after her body was found in a container on his property. Megan Bos, 37, was reported missing March 9. She was known to spend time in the Antioch and Waukegan areas. On April 10, Antioch police went into a Waukegan business to speak to Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, a person of interest who had frequent contact with Bos, the Waukegan Police Department said.
