In 2021, I pursued my dream of relocating to the coast. My partner and I took a leap of faith, packed up our lives and moved to Pembrokeshire. It was incredible. Our evenings were spent swimming in the sea, having beach barbecues and taking long walks. After a challenging few years dealing with health issues (I was diagnosed with lupus and kidney failure in 2017) it was the peaceful, joyful life we had been yearning for. However, a few months after our move our world was turned upside down again.

I knew that there was something wrong, despite what I'd been told by doctors (Image: Tyler Mears)In 2021, I realised my dream of relocating to the seaside. It was the cowboy-inspired theme park in South Wales that opened with great fanfare and a £1m price tag, but it ended in disaster. Just weeks after a grand opening on the site of an old colliery in Rhondda, it was abandoned. Western World was established in 1987 on the grounds of the former Fernhill colliery in Blaenrhondda.

Llangrannog is not just a word. It's a state of mind. It's a moment in time. It's a place - and an experience - which connects Welsh people no matter where they now are in the world. I went there. You went there. We all went there. And we all remember more than a few of these. Great days. 1. You thought the Swogs were soooo much older than they actually were And you really fancied the pants off them. 2. You went for a walk to the beach on the first night And jumped in the sea to impress your friends.

You often won't see many people about in one Welsh village. That's because not many live there - around 2,000 at the last count (2021 Census), and that's including other surrounding communities to bump up the numbers. So it might come as a surprise that Llanddarog in Carmarthenshire is home to not one but two fantastic pubs. Perhaps it's less of a surprise when you realise there isn't a huge amount to do around here - even the village hall is shut right now for redevelopment.
