TAHLEQUAH — As of Oct. 9, Cherokee Nation’s negotiations with the state of Oklahoma over the motor vehicle compact continue to drag on, however, recently there has been a glimmer of hope for a new agreement. The current motor vehicle compact with the state is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2024. For months, the expiration of the compact seemed inevitable, but late September it was reported that the state was willing to make some concessions in negotiations that it previously was unwilling to do.

Recently, the Cherokee Nation hosted a special celebration thanks to the voluntary actions of friends at the Gilcrease Museum. On Aug. 6, the Gilcrease Museum officially repatriated the last printing press of the Cherokee Advocate to the Cherokee Nation. The press had been in the Thomas Gilcrease collection since the 1940s when he purchased it in order to preserve this important part of Cherokee and United States history.

INTRODUCTION The advent of effective antiretroviral therapy (ART) has transformed HIV infection from a life-threatening condition to a chronic disease with manageable outcomes [1]. However, this prolonged lifespan has unveiled a spectrum of non-communicable comorbidities, among which metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a significant concern [2]. MASLD is the most frequent chronic liver disease globally, affecting 32% of the general adult population [3, 4].
