Photo by Stephen Brashear/Getty Images Could 2025 be the year that the Seattle Mariners finally have postseason success? They are certainly due. The franchise has been to the playoffs just once since 2001, and they have never played in a World Series. Through the season’s first two months, the M’s have shown promise. They enter this series leading the competitive AL West by half a game with a 32-26 record. But their position is tenuous.

Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images A sweep of the Chicago White Sox is nothing to brag about, but for an Orioles team that has struggled to string together wins it was a big deal. The O’s 3-2 win on Sunday gave them their first series sweep of the year and marked just the second time all year that they have won three games in a row. It also created some breathing room for them above the basement in the American League. The 2025 Orioles were supposed to be competitive this year.

Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images In a game that had everything, the Orioles topped the White Sox yet again, prevailing 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore for a series-clinching win. Jackson Holliday got the scoring started with a bang. The 21-year-old launched the third pitch out of Davis Martin’s hand for a solo shot onto the flag court in right field. It was the first lead-off home run of Holliday’s career, and it gave the O’s a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Photo by Larry Radloff/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The Orioles find themselves one win away from a series win yet again. It would be cool if they could actually cash in on that this time, but winning consecutive games this season has proved challenging for this crew. The headline coming into this game is the return of Coby Mayo. He is replacing Ryan Mountcastle, who heads to the IL with a hamstring strain. The injury forced Mountcastle out of Friday’s win.

Photo by Samuel Corum/Getty Images Good Morning Birdland,With their 2-1 win last night, the Orioles guaranteed that they will make it through the weekend without “earning” the moniker of “Worst Team in the AL.” What an achievement. It was not a great evening for the Orioles offense. They were largely held down by Sean Burke, a University of Maryland product who entered the game with a 4.33 ERA. But to be fair, he has been quite good in May, so perhaps it’s bad timing.
