FRANKFORT, Ind. (TCD) — A 28-year-old man will ostensibly spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend and her grandmother two years ago. In a statement Thursday, Sept. 7, the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office announced a judge sentenced Gary Ferrell II to 110 years in prison for fatally shooting 62-year-old Pamela Sledd and 21-year-old Promise Mays on Aug. 18, 2021. In April, Ferrell pleaded guilty to two counts of murder.

The naira on Tuesday appreciated against the dollar as it exchanged at N744.97 at the investors and exporters window. The naira gained 0.39 per cent compared to the N747.87 it exchanged for the dollar on Monday. The open indicative rate closed at N774.99 to the dollar on Tuesday. A spot exchange rate of N799.83 to the dollar was the highest rate recorded within the day’s trading before it settled at N744.97. The naira sold for as low as N588 to the dollar within the day’s trading.

INEC on Thursday restated that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be deployed for voter accreditation and transmission of results on the November 11 governorship poll in Bayelsa. Resident electoral commissioner Obo Effanga gave the assurance at a news conference at the INEC office in Yenagoa. Mr Effanga said almost all the non-sensitive materials were already in the local government areas.

The UK will rejoin the European Union’s £85 billion Horizon science research programme, it has been confirmed this morning. From today, British researchers are able to apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under the Horizon scheme. The UK had been locked out of the Horizon programme after Brexit.
