At the end of August, your author visited the Niederfinow ship lift on the Oder-Havel Canal, approximately 60 km northeast of Berlin, Germany. For safety reasons, life jackets were worn during the tour. In beautiful summer weather, the landmark could be seen towering high in the flat, sandy surrounding countryside from a distance.

Nearly 19,000 vertical-transportation (VT) experts from more than 110 countries attended interlift 2023 in Augsburg, Germany, on October 17-20, marking the event’s final undertaking in the Bavarian city before moving to its new home of Nuremberg, Germany, in 2025. It had been only a year and a half since interlift 2022, which was delayed six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the two fairs couldn’t have been more different.

As we come to the end of our year, war rages in several places on Earth. Even Earth itself seems to be upset that humans are not paying enough attention to its needs. It can be hard to be hopeful, but all around there are signals of change for the better, at least in the building industry. Europe’s construction industry will see real growth of 1.5% year-on-year during 2023 (underperforming the global construction industry), and has forecast a “modest” decline of 1% in 2024 for construction volumes.

TKE modernizes escalators at Rosas station. TK Elevator (TKE) was asked to replace two escalators with a 7.15-m-high drop at the Rosas subway station in València, Spain, installing escalators of similar dimensions in the same shaft, so as not to touch the structural supports of the station.

Castle wheelchair lift wins Hungarian Elevator Association and Lift-S Association award. Lifttechnika Kft. won first place in the “Elevator of the Year Application” announced by the Lift-S Association and the Hungarian Elevator Association for the years 2021-2022. Lifttechnika Kft. won the award based on the application of its Vimec A28 wheelchair lifting equipment for the main entrance of the Wenckheim Castle in Szabadkígyós, Hungary.
