    The world’s first museum about microorganisms employs the use of a clever elevator design to put visitors in the teeny tiny shoes of microorganisms. The ARTIS Zoo in Amsterdam, Netherlands has opened a new exhibit titled Micropia, as reported by ARTIS Zoo. The immersive exhibit teaches guests about microorganisms, or microbes, which are beings too small to see with the naked eye. Founded in 1838, ARTIS is the Netherlands’ first public zoo, and one of the five oldest in the world.

    The Centaur Theatre, Montreal’s oldest English-language theatre, is, for the first time in 56 years, now accessible to mobility-impaired patrons. Located in Old Montreal, The Centaur Theatre recently installed a street-level access elevator, which allows those who use a wheelchair or a walker or have other mobility issues to enter the building with ease thanks to the generosity of donator Marisa Testa, an avid theater-audience member.

    Diligent Robotics recently announced that its flagship product, Moxi the Robot, has completed 110,000 autonomous elevator rides and counting at health systems across the U.S., Robotics Tomorrow reports. Moxi has a humanoid form factor, with an arm for manipulating the environment, opening doors and pushing elevator buttons. Moxi is the only robot to accomplish this feat in a generalized way that is working 24/7 in U.S. hospitals.

    A surprising feat of architecture for the advancement of the elevator industry lies on the eastern edge of Germany’s Black Forest. Opened in 2017 right outside of the town of Rottweil, Germany, the TK Elevator Testturm stands tall above the forest at a whopping height of 807 ft. The tower is one of the country’s tallest buildings and seems to make even the Black Forest feel small in comparison. With no windows, the 12 shafts of the tower are used to test new elevator models.
